Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Jal (“the app”, “we”, “us”), published by JARA TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED, handles your information. Jal is a hydration-tracking app. We built it to be private by design: your hydration and health data stay on your device and in your own Apple Health. Jal exchanges logs and progress with your paired Apple Watch but sends no analytics or hydration data to us.

The short version. Jal has no user accounts, shows no ads, does not send your logs to us, and never tracks you across other apps. Everything you log lives on your device and your paired Apple Watch (and in Apple Health, if you turn that on). Jal does not send analytics or your hydration data to us.

1. Information the app handles

Information stored on your device

This information is stored locally on your device using Apple’s standard storage (SwiftData and app preferences) and a shared app group used by the Jal widget. Your paired Apple Watch exchanges logs and progress with your iPhone through Apple’s WatchConnectivity framework. We do not receive a copy of it.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you grant permission, Jal integrates with Apple Health to:

This data is provided and protected by Apple Health under your control. Jal reads and writes it on your device. Your daily progress, which can include water read from Health, is also displayed on your paired Watch and widget. We do not receive your Apple Health data or use it for advertising, marketing, or data mining. You can review or revoke Jal’s Health access at any time in the Apple Health app or in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.

Purchases

Jal offers an optional auto-renewing subscription, “Jal Pro”, processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details. The app uses StoreKit product and transaction information to verify entitlement and handle purchases. Apple’s handling of your purchase is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Contacting support and visiting this website

If you email support, you voluntarily send us your email address, message and any attachments. Do not send hydration or medical records unless needed for your request. This correspondence is separate from data stored in Jal; “Data Not Collected” describes the app’s automatic data practices, not information you choose to email us. Microsoft 365 provides our business email. DigitalOcean App Platform hosts this website and DigitalOcean manages its DNS. Hover is our domain registrar. These providers may process technical information, such as IP addresses and delivery logs, when you visit a linked page or send a message. Contact us to request access, correction or deletion of support correspondence. Your legal data-protection rights also apply to this information.

JARA TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED is responsible for handling support correspondence and website information. Details of the providers’ data-processing terms are available from Microsoft and DigitalOcean. If you are unhappy with our handling of your information, contact us. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data-protection authority.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, they are scheduled and delivered locally on your device. We do not send push notifications from a server and do not collect notification data.

Analytics

This release does not send usage analytics, health data, or install identifiers to an analytics service. Local diagnostic event names may be recorded on your device to help troubleshoot the app. We do not receive these through a Jal server.

2. Information we do not collect

Jal does not send your app data to us or to a third-party analytics provider. We do not sell or rent your app records. Apple manages purchases and device backup according to your Apple account and device settings.

3. How your information is used

The information described above is used solely to make the app work for you — to record and display your hydration, calculate your goal and progress, run reminders and the in-app features, and unlock Jal Pro. Processing happens locally; Apple handles your purchase entitlement.

Support correspondence is used to respond to your request and resolve problems. Necessary customer support is processed to provide our service and, where applicable, perform our contract with you. Website delivery and security information is processed for our legitimate interests in operating a reliable, secure website. We do not use support messages for advertising. Providing a message is optional; we may be unable to resolve a request without the information needed to understand it.

4. Data retention and deletion

Your data remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove individual logs in the app, erase everything at once in Settings → Erase all data, or remove local Jal data by deleting the app from your device. Deleting an individual drink also queues removal of its matching Jal-owned Apple Health sample when Health access is available. If access is denied, removal waits until access is granted; you can also remove the sample directly in Apple Health. Erase all data clears local app data, not your Apple Health history or Pro purchase. Device backups and paired-device copies are managed through Apple’s settings.

Support correspondence is retained while needed to handle the request and any related unresolved issue or legal obligation. Contact us to ask about retention or request deletion of your correspondence. Hosting and email services may retain operational logs and backup copies under their service settings and contractual terms; those settings are separate from the logs stored locally by Jal.

5. Children’s privacy

Jal is not directed to children and is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under UK/EU GDPR or similar laws), you have rights over your personal data, including access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection where applicable. Because Jal stores app records locally on your device and we hold no copy of those records, you can exercise these rights directly: view and edit your data in the app, and delete it by removing logs, using Settings → Erase all data, or uninstalling the app. If you have questions, contact us using the details below.

For support correspondence or website information handled by us, contact [email protected] with your request. We may need sufficient information to identify the relevant correspondence. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you may object to the processing. These rights are subject to the conditions and exceptions in applicable law.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this page. Significant changes may also be noted within the app.

8. Contact us
